WELLNESS
A healthy mind and a healthy body
As we age, it is important to keep healthy, to increase our 'health span' as a greater proportion of our life span.

On this page, you will find a variety of resources recommended by members to which we can all turn for information, ideas and organisations which promote positive mental health and wellbeing, healthy nutrition and exercise.

If you have a resource that has helped you and you would like to share it with other members please contact us on the link below.

INTERMITTENT FASTING

Also know as Time Restricted Eating
Intermittent fasting is an eating schedule with prolonged periods of not eating (or fasting). The main difference between intermittent fasting and traditional diets is that fasting diets focus on ‘when’ a person should eat rather than ‘what’ they should eat.
NHS EVERY MIND MATTERS

Expert advice and practical tips to help you look after your mental health and wellbeing
Looking after your mental health is not something we should just do if we are struggling, or feeling low, anxious or stressed. It's actually something we should think about all the time and really invest in, just like with our physical health.
Having good mental health can help us sleep better, feel better, enable us to do the things we want to do, and help us have more positive relationships with those around us. We do not need to wait until we're struggling.
Looking after our mental health is not only good for us now, it can also help us deal with and manage difficult times in the future. Over time, it may also reduce our risk of physical health problems.

ME, MYSELF AND WI

Launching 10th May 2021
In line with the National Mental Health Awareness Week, which first started on 10 May 2021, the NFWI has launched the Me, Myself and WI programme, with the aim of helping members easily recognise ways in which they can help their mental and physical health. Using the butterfly logos (above), across the NFWI, we will help identify activities which members could undertake; form cooking and craft, to exercise and science, we will be highlighting a variety of activities across the coming weeks which members could incorporate into daily life. When the butterfly logo is shown, members will be able to identify the activity as being a benefit to their mental and/or physical wellbeing.

PODCASTS TO ENHANCE YOUR WELLNESS
Informing, educating, entertaining wherever you are and whenever you want.
Podcasts often go much more in-depth into an issue than your traditional news source does, and add in a bit of entertainment value while they're at it. Many new listeners have found podcasts to be a great replacement for news that was too fear-mongering on television and too sensationalist social media.
There are so many podcasts out there it can be difficult to find one that fits the bill. Our members have recommended the following which they have found helpful/inspiring/comforting and which you may too.

If you are unfamiliar with podcasts, download the BBC Sounds app (or search for it on Google) and start browsing. If your podcast is not produced or listed by the BBC, use a general podcast app to find something you like.
